Fantastic food. Very authentic. We got the Massawa platter with three meats and three veggies and it was exactly like what I've had in Addis Ababa.

This is probably one of my favourite restaurants in Winnipeg. The food is delicious and made fresh, which I find the other Ethiopian restaurants in the city do not do. If it's your first time going I'd recommend going with one of the house specialty platters, you'll get a variety and a good taste of the different flavours used. The food does take a while to prepare, and especially on busy nights you can wait anywhere from 45 minutes to over an hour, but in my opinion it's worth it.

Massawa has had in my opinion, the best Ethiopian/Eritrean food in Winnipeg. The food is consistently delicious and the portions are massive.

Upon my recent visit this spring, the only complaint I had was not with the food, but the quiet, or should I say museum-like quiet hush that fell over the restaurant. So much so you can hear almost every conversation at almost every table. I recommend sitting in the back around the corner for a modicum of privacy.

In the summer they still offer patio seating with a fantastic view of Osborne Village for great people watching.

All of this is on top of the best quality, very reasonably priced and purely delicious Ethiopian/Eritrean food in the city.

Also, being vegetarian, I found the vegetarian platter massive with a wide variety of items and just enough injera. The house-made iced tea was still as sweet and delicious as I remembered.

Our server was friendly and efficient and we did not have to wait long for drinks, appetizers or the main course. My only complaint would be that this restaurant does not offer delivery, only dine-in or take-out.

    Eritrean food.

Looking at these other reviews, it is clear that they've solved the slowness problem.  In fact, if anything they now err in the other direction.

The food was very good.  I think they are technically Eritrean, and there is a slight difference between Eritrean and Ethiopian cuisine.  In particular, I think that Eritrean may be missing an equivalent of Misir Wot.

The wine list could stand to be more extensive.  There are only two reds available by the glass.

INCREDIBLE. Our server was very friendly, but the food. Holy. It was my first time eating Ethiopian food, and it quickly made the top ten of my favorite cuisines. Thank you!!!
